End-to-end solutions from raw materials to production equipments for PU foam and mattress.
The foam volume from one ton of PU raw material varies significantly depending on the production process and resulting foam density, so the volume is not fixed.
Traditional rigid foam can reach a density of 173.7 kg/m³, yielding about 5.76 cubic meters per ton.
With special additives, density can be reduced to 41.7 kg/m³, resulting in about 24 cubic meters per ton.
Soft foam made by hot mold methods can reach 25 kg/m³, giving around 40 cubic meters per ton.
Water-blown foam formulas can produce densities of 15–20 kg/m³, yielding approximately 66.67–50 cubic meters per ton.
If aiming for a density of 30 kg/m³, the theoretical volume is 33 m³, but actual output is usually lower due to production losses, worker habits, temperature, and humidity.
To calculate PU raw material usage per cubic meter of insulation foam, you need to confirm: board or spray, indoor or outdoor use, thickness, and foam density.
For example, spray foam used in cold storage (10–20 cm thick) with a finished density of around 40 kg/m³ yields about 20 m³ per ton, or 50 kg per cubic meter.
Conventional PU insulation typically has a density of 30–50 kg/m³, requiring 40–60 kg per cubic meter.
Understanding foam yield is only the first step—choosing the right equipment matters even more. Our polyurethane soft foam machines help manufacturers handle various production needs with reliability, consistency, and efficiency.
