How many cubic meters of polyurethane foam can be produced per ton?

The volume of polyurethane foam produced per ton can vary significantly due to differences in production techniques and resulting densities. Therefore, the volume is not a fixed value.

 

Traditional rigid foam materials can have densities up to 173.7 kg/m³, resulting in a volume of approximately 5.76 cubic meters per ton.

 

With the addition of special agents, the density can be reduced to 41.7 kg/m³, resulting in a volume of about 24 cubic meters per ton.

 

Soft foam produced using the hot mold method can have densities as low as 25 kg/m³, giving a volume of about 40 cubic meters per ton.

 

Using a water-blown formula can produce soft block foam with densities of 15-20 kg/m³, increasing the volume to approximately 66.67 to 50 cubic meters per ton.

 

If a density of 30 kg/m³ is required, theoretically, 33 cubic meters could be produced per ton. However, the actual volume is usually lower than the theoretical value due to production losses, operator habits, temperature, humidity, and other factors.

 

Regarding how much polyurethane foam material is needed per cubic meter of insulation layer, it first needs to be confirmed whether the polyurethane insulation layer is a board or spray-applied, for indoor or outdoor use, and its thickness. This helps determine material losses. The density of the insulation foam is also crucial for determining the primary material usage.

 

Generally, for spray-applied insulation in cold storage with a thickness of 10-20 cm and a finished density of around 40 kg/m³, one ton of polyurethane foam material can produce about 20 cubic meters of finished product. This means that about 50 kg of material is used per cubic meter.

 

For conventional polyurethane insulation, the density is typically between 30-50 kg/m³, meaning the usage per cubic meter is between 40-60 kg.
